Luke Cabrera

My incredible wife, Larissa, and I have been married since 2009. Our lives together have been quite an adventure as the Lord has allowed us to experience things as a couple that have challenged us and helped us grow in character. We have two awesome little dogs, Leo and Leona, and they keep us entertained. We also love going to the movies together and regularly schedule our weekends around movie date time! My faith has been shaped by many things, but a few have been remarkable. For one, I have had great examples of Godly men in my life. Both my dad and my grandfather are preachers and ministers. Growing up I developed a hunger for great preaching and teaching. I’ve been blessed to be guided by their advice and wisdom in the Lord. Secondly, I grew up in a blended family. While there were tough years working through the dynamics, the Lord molded me greatly in areas such as extending grace, showing patience, and loving with humility. Finally, is the memory of my late grandfather. Our family remembers him as a man who prayed tirelessly, and then some. He and my grandmother did not have much in material possessions, but were rich in their faith. This memory will be in front of me my whole life as I seek to lead my family in faith, and in that faith, a life of prayer without ceasing. A scripture I always remember is Mark 4:39. He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be Still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. Here his followers are fearing for their lives in a situation they have no control over. I love, for one, that Jesus had been asleep and they had to wake him, but also that we get to see the amazing authority Jesus has to rebuke the calamity in the lives of his followers. In also remembering the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, I think finding integrity in our faith means we know and trust that the Lord is able to deliver from anything, as proven in raising Christ from the grave. But whether we are delivered, now in the flesh, or not, our obedience to and reverence of the Lord our God is above all. I started working at The Hills in 2014. I was connected through a relationship between The Hills and my previous church family in San Antonio, Oak Hills Church. I have been so thankful to be here and a part of this family. I’m proud of the leadership we have, the way the word is taught, and the culture of praise and worship that is vibrant here. I look forward to our future as a church. My hope is that we will engage community like never before. I hope that people will be drawn to our fellowship not because of any manufactured detail, but because they feel an authenticity to what we do and who we are as we celebrate and live in Christ.
