Women: Navigating Life: Finding Intimacy with God
North Richland Hills
Tuesday
Morning

An invitation for every woman who feels she isn’t godly enough… isn’t loving enough… isn’t doing enough. The life of a woman today isn’t really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. Like Mary, you long to sit at the Lord’s feet… but the daily demands of a busy world just won’t leave you alone. Like Martha, you love Jesus and really want to serve him… yet you struggle with weariness, resentment, and feelings of inadequacy.

Then comes Jesus, right into the midst of your busy Mary/Martha life-and he extends the same invitation he issued long ago to the two sisters of Bethany. Tenderly he invites you to choose “the better part”-a joyful life of “living-room” intimacy with him that flows naturally into “kitchen service” for him.

How can you make that choice? With her fresh approach to the familiar Bible story and its creative, practical strategies, Joanna shows how all of us -Marys and Marthas alike- can draw closer to our Lord, deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy.

Optional:  Purchase Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World: Finding Intimacy With God in the Busyness of Life

Church of the Small Things: The Million Little Pieces That Make Up a Life

Is my ordinary, everyday life actually significant? Is it okay to be fulfilled by the simple acts of raising kids, working in an office, and cooking chicken for dinner?

It’s been said, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away.” The pressure of that can be staggering as we spend our days looking for that big thing that promises to take our breath away. Meanwhile, we lose sight of the small significance of fully living with every breath we take.

Melanie Shankle tackles these questions head-on in her book, Church of the Small Things. Easygoing and relatable, she speaks directly to the heart of women of all ages who are longing to find significance and meaning in the normal, sometimes mundane world of driving carpool to soccer practice, attending class on their college campus, cooking meals for their family, or taking care of a sick loved one.

The million little pieces that make a life aren’t necessarily glamorous or far-reaching. But God uses some of the smallest, most ordinary acts of faithfulness—and sometimes they look a whole lot like packing lunch.

Fear and Trembling by R.C. Sproul

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Prov. 1:7), but often we do not fear the Lord as we ought because we forget how He is revealed in Scripture. We tend to view God as a heavenly grandfather, not as one who is a consuming fire. We think God is like us when instead, He is utterly holy. Until we understand who God is, we will not have the right attitude toward Him. In this series, Dr. R.C. Sproul helps us to understand who God is, showing us the One who is holy.

Matchless by Angie Smith

Who is Jesus? Why did He come to earth? How can I know Him?

We live in a world where there’s a lot of confusion about Jesus. Too often people want to shape Him and His message to fit their personal needs or agendas. So how can we know the truth?

Join Seamless author Angie Smith in this 8-session search for truth as she unfolds the story of our matchless Savior—His mission, miracles, and message. Through her signature wit and accessible style, Angie unpacks Scripture in a way that’s easy to understand, regardless of how long you’ve been studying the Bible (a great option for new believers!). This study will deepen your understanding of Jesus through biblical, historical, and cultural insight and help you see Him less as an iconic figure and more as an intimate friend.

A Woman Who Doesn’t Quit: 5 Habits from the Book of Ruth

Tuesday | 9:30 am | NRH Campus Room # 209

Every woman will eventually face the temptation to give in and give up. But something transformative happens when a woman perseveres in the face of difficulty and pain. A woman who refuses to quit influences her world in ways she could never have imagined. Unfolding over 6 sessions, Nicki Koziarz walks women through the Book of Ruth, focusing on the Moabite woman’s 5 practical habits that kept her eyes on God: Ruth accepted the assignment of refinement, followed through on her commitments despite her feelings, remained open to the movement of God, gave others what she needed, and moved forward in faith.

Pure Desire Ministries

Yes

Pure Desire Ministries began over 20 years ago as Dr. Ted Roberts recognized the pervasiveness of sexual struggle in the church. The pat answers of the past only gave men and women a message of “try harder” which kept them isolated in their sin and shame. He and a professional staff, developed a course that is Biblically sound, clinically based, and highly successful at creating lasting change.

The work begins with the award-winning Conquer Series. This 10 week course serves as an on-ramp for people in the church to understand the true nature of sexual addiction, and to seek healing in a grace-filled, redemptive way.

The program continues with The Seven Pillars of Freedom, a 29 lesson program designed to more fully explore the nature of addiction, the way God intends His people to fight against the powers that want to defeat us and what that freedom will look like.

This program does require a serious application of effort, a willingness to be vulnerable and open with your fellow classmates and a measure of dedication to allow the Holy Spirit turn you into the warrior that God intended.

Workbook materials can be purchased from www.puredesire.org ($50)

We are all busy. Some of us can’t remember the last time we rested or even had free time. Our busyness can feel productive, but it is a toxic distraction, sapping our spiritual, physical, and emotional vitality. It may seem like we have no choice but to live at a frantic pace, but God has a better path for us.

This five-part video series is based on the book by John Mark Comer. It addresses one of the greatest threats to our spiritual lives: HURRY. Instead of allowing our calendars and screens to control our lives, Jesus offers us a new rhythm of life, overflowing with grace, peace, and beauty. This course teaches you how to ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.

Evangelism Road Map

What is the purpose? To create a safe space for the body to grow and develop the tools that may have never been sharpened or activated in their lives.

Why do we need to evangelize? The bible says to do the work of an evangelist (2 Tim 4:5). Jesus also tells us that we are to go out into all the world and preach and teach the gospel (Matthew 28:16-20).

What is “Truth in Action”? The body of Christ has been a doormat too long; we have settled for just the giving of our money and having someone else do it. Jesus never called us to passive Christianity. Jesus called us to deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow him to reach the lost (Matthew 16:24). This is an opportunity to practice the tools you have been given with others in our city. We will mobilize and go to the grocery stores, 7th street, food places, Wal-Mart, Sundance Square and allow the Lord to work through us.

Do I need to attend every class? As with anything, do you feel that the Lord brought you to this class to grow? A gardener doesn’t plant a seed without the intention of the seed growing. Coming to the first class, a seed will be sown. The rest of the classes will be the watering of that seed to grow into what it was called to be.

  • Week 1: Realigning Purpose
  • Week 2: Anatomy of Prayer
  • Week 3: The Art of Fasting
